No: 343, 8 November 2017, Press Release Regarding our Election as a Member to the UNESCO Executive Board

Turkey, as one of the founding members of UNESCO, has been elected by 134 votes to the Executive Board for the period of 2017-2021 at today’s elections in Paris during the 39th General Conference of the Organization. As is known, the Executive Board is the top governing body of UNESCO with its 58 members.

Apart from Turkey; Germany, Finland and Portugal were the other candidates in Group I, whereas Turkey, Finland and Portugal have been elected to the Executive Board. In this regard, Turkey which was not represented in the Executive Board since 2005, has been entitled to serve in the Executive Board.

Believing in UNESCO’s ideals, Turkey will continue to contribute to UNESCO’s work as a member of the Executive Board from now on.

This result is achieved with the valuable support of the Turkish Ministy of Tourism and Culture as well as Turkish Ministry of National Education.
